Make use of the climatic data during 1971—-20()6 observed by 1 1 meteorological stations in Bazhou regions of Xinjiang,the potential evapotranspiration in every station were calculated with the Penman—Monteith equation recommended by FAO in 1998,and the spatio-temporal changes of the variation characteristics of potential evapotranspiration in Bazhou regions were analyzed.The main results show that:(1)The reduced tendency of potential evapotranspiration was remarkable in recent 36a.the decline tendency rate was -42.1mm·(10a)-1;(2)The interdecadal variation characteristics of potential evapotranspiration were declined sequentially at 1970s,1980s and 1990s,but since the beginning of the 21st century,2001—-2006,it Was presented to rise again;(3) In recent 36a,it does not have remarkable cyclical change on less than 36 years;(4)The abrupt change detection indicated that the annual potential evapotranspiration reduces suddenly in 1980;(5)The most main spatial distribution characteristics about the annual potential evapotranspiration were the synchronous variations;(6)the annual mean potential evapotranspiration have good multidimensional linear Regression relations with the altitude and latitude in Bazhou regions.
